Give your lawn a breath of fresh air with our core aeration services!

It’s imperative to mow, fertilize and water your lawn to ensure its health. That’s not all the upkeep needed, as lawn aeration is also a key component of a beautiful lawn. Core aeration involves the removal of small soil plugs or cores from the lawn. A specially-designed machine extracts ½ to ¾ inch diameter soil cores and deposits them onto the lawn.

Proper aeration of your lawn regularly will reduce thatch, soil compaction and allow more air, water, and fertilizer into the root system, promoting a healthier and greener lawn. See what our services can do for you, and let Independent Lawn Service™ get you on the right track today!

Lawn Seeding

Adding grass seed to your lawn may sound simple enough, but the actual process can be complex and is best handled by the lawn care professionals at Independent Lawn Service. We know exactly when it's time to aerate and overseed or how to slit seed your lawn properly to ensure your grass grows correctly.

Aeration & Overseeding

With this process, we will aerate and then seed your entire lawn. As the cores break down, they create a top dressing over the seed that, with proper watering, will allow the seeds to germinate. This is a relatively inexpensive way to improve lawns and is very effective in repairing minor problem areas. The result is a more robust lawn!

Slit Seeding

We use a specially-designed slit seeding machine with multiple spinning blades that slice into the soil in rows while simultaneously laying seed into the open soil. The seeds are placed in the rows at a rate that, with proper watering, can completely rebuild a heavily damaged lawn or even grow a new one with amazing results.

Lawn Aeration & Seeding FAQs

Our team has over two decades of experience in lawn aeration, which makes us extremely qualified to answer any question or address any concern you may have about these services. Below you’ll find some of our clients’ most frequently asked questions. We encourage you to contact us if you require any more information.

How Long After Lawn Aeration Can I Mow My Lawn?

After aeration and overseeding, you can mow your lawn again in 2-4 weeks. When mowing, make sure you mow your yard to the recommended height depending on the type of grass that you have. Not sure what that is? We can help you determine your grass type before lawn aeration. Most grass types are recommended to be 2-3 inches high after aeration.

When Should I Aerate My Lawn?

The best time for lawn aeration is the fall, during your grass’s peak growing season, since most Michigan grass is cool-season grass. We don’t recommend aerating your lawn during the early spring as more weeds will grow during this period. Check out our blog post on this topic for more information, and contact us for a free estimate.

Will Overseeding Kill Weeds?

No, overseeding is meant to prevent new weeds from sprouting, not kill existing ones. Overseeding is the planting of grass seed directly into the lawn. The process makes your lawn more dense and can be used to fill any bald spots on your lawn. You’ll still need to remove the existing weeds in your lawn. But don’t worry, that’s also a service we offer.
